Chongqing Medical University


Chongqing University of Medical Sciences (CQUMS), the former Chongqing Medical College, was founded in 1956. It was originally a branch of the Shanghai First Medical College (now called Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University), and got its present name in 1985.

The main campus of CQUMS occupies an area of 580,000 square meters. Buildings occupy an area of 780,000 square meters. The total assets of this university including teaching, scientific research and medical treatment amount to 634,940,000.00 RMB. This includes a library with more than 800,000 books. University has acquired an area of 1,533,410 square meters for a second campus, the planning and preparation for the construction of the second campus has already commenced.

CQMS consists of 8 colleges (The College of Basic Medical Sciences, The College of Clinical Medicine, The Second Clinical College, The Pediatric College, The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, The College of Applied Technology, The College of Public Health, and The College of Management). There are 11 departments (divisions), and one Health school.

The University has

· successfully accomplished research on numerous scientific and technological key projects. By 2004, 751 different levels of scientific research projects were carried out, and 2083 papers were published at home and abroad. The JC-A High-intensity Focused Ultrasound System for Tumor Therapy (referred to as the “Focused Ultrasound Knife”) was initially developed by this university.
Since China opened to the outside world, nearly 1000 staff has been sent by the university to America, England, Canada, Japan, Russia, France, Germany, Australia, Holland, Switzerland and Hong Kong for advanced training, study, or mutual exchange.

About 1000 foreign experts and professors have been invited to visit the university and to give lectures. 65 medical experts from America, Japan, England, France
, Germany, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Holland, Thailand, and Hong Kong have been conferred the titles of visiting and honorary professors.

1. 60 % Marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English.


Medium of Instruction

International students will be taught in English. However, students are required to learn Chinese language and appear for HSK, the national language exam. Students will have to attend Chinese language classes for the first year.

Hostel & other Facilities

The foreign student hostel is open to all international students. The hostel offers excellent facilities at a very reasonable cost. Each room has a private shower, toilet, AC, telephone and television a study table and a cupboard. Only two students share the room.
All class rooms are multimedia aided, and air conditioned. There are banks, post office, super markets, dining hall, hospital and sports facilities very near the international student hostel.

About Chongqing city

Chongqing is situated in the east of southwest China at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing river. It is the economic hub of southwest China also known as the mountain city, the whole city is built against a backdrop of hills and water, characterized by zig-zagging roads and overlapping houses. Chongqing traces its ancient history all the way back to the 13th century BC. The religious cliff sculptures of Dazu and Baodingshan are a world heritage site making it an important centre for tourism. Chongqing is the gateway to the famous three gorges scenic region. It is located 640 miles northwest of Hong Kong.

Notes:

1. All Fee to be paid annually at the beginning of the session in September, directly to the university in RMB.

3. Stay Permit and Health Checkup will be around 1500 RMB (only for the 1st year)
4. The exchange rate for US$ to RMB and INR are subject to Forex Market fluctuation.
5. The total duration of the course is 6 years. Students might have the option of doi
ng internship in their native country if they so desire (subject to MCI regulations). In such case only 20 % of the tuition fee is to be paid for evaluation and graduates examination in the sixth year.
6. Food and other expenses average around US$ 700, though it may vary from one student to another.
7. Students have to pay Water and Electricity Charges as per the actual usage which may be around 40-50 RMB per month.
8. Students can buy books from the university book store which will approximately cost around US$80-$100 or buy books of their choice from India.
9. University
will evaluate all applications and grant admission on merit.
10. Applicants from Non English Medium in Senior Secondary (+2) will have to qualify an English Language Examination conducted by the university.

11. University shall not provide admission directly to students from Nepal, India, Indonesia and Kenya, since it has appointed consultants for admissions.
